I Think We All Know How She Does It

When I first saw the trailer for I Don't Know How She Does It I thought it looked eerily familiar then I realized it seemed like it was a spinoff of Carrie Bradshaw's life in SATC. Honestly, I was interested in seeing the film at first because it's a question I've been asking since I was in college thinking about my future. I was so nervous about how I would balance everything if I was to end up a WOHM. As reviews and commentary about the film started to roll out I revised my thoughts on seeing the movie especially when Rotten Tomatoes gave it a scathing freshness rating of 17%!

Clutch Magazine and The Hairpin had my favorite commentary on the film and like Clutch's author I too saw the trailer before seeing The Help, and I completely agree when she wrote: ". . . while the trailer ran all I could see was Carrie, Carrie, Carrie." SO True! No matter what movie I see SJP in I STILL see Carrie Bradshaw. As The Huffington Post pointed out the juxtaposition of Carrie with the superwoman list on the poster could be a big disconnect for most women.

Comments on these types of posts are always interesting and I agree with those who answered the question of the movie title by saying, "She just does it!" And now that I look back at how my mom did it, that's exactly what she did. If I was a WOHM I would "just do it" too. We all do what we have to do no matter what our circumstances, right?

    I have not seen it, but a review I saw on TV mentioned that it could come off a tad bit dated because women are already doing it everything. It went on to say that it may have been more beneficial in the 60's or 70's. I can't remember the actual numeric they gave it, but they didn't rave about it. I will probably see it at some point, but I won't rush.

    I haven't seen the movie but I want to. I think it'd be better for me because I'm like the only female who didn't watch SATC. Of course, the answer is right; she just DOES it.

    i agree with OM...i won't rush to see it but i think it's a good convo about the balance of motherhood/wifehood/career life...there are many women that are doing it and making it work beautifully...yourself included...
