Standing Together

I stood in solidarity with thousands in downtown Boston yesterday protesting the immigration ban which unfairly targets Muslims. It was a powerful experience and as one sign I saw mentioned, if we have to do this every weekend, so be it.

How Are You?

If there's one thing this week has made evident it's that this weekend especially *must* be a time for self-care. As I watched Grayson enjoy his two grapefruits today (he's obsessed!) I thought about how beautiful it was that he was so carefree and in the moment. I kinda felt jealous! While I know my professional and domestic responsibilities will only afford so much carefree-ness, I'm glad I purposely left my calendar pretty light lately so I can just enjoy being with my family.

That's what self-care means to me.

I Attended the Women's March, Now What?

Unpacking my experience at the Boston Women's March has been complicated.

Reflecting on My 2009 Inauguration Experience

Today I felt compelled to revisit my photos from the 2009 inauguration of President Obama. I am truly thankful to have been alive to experience his presidency and I will never take it for granted.

My Top 5 Moments at the 2017 New England Auto Show

Disclosure: This is a sponsored post in partnership with SheBuysCars and Toyota Boston; all opinions expressed are my own.

2016 was a year of firsts for me and one of my favorites was getting a new car. For my 36th birthday Mr. Lovebird surprised me with a new Mazda CX9 and while I had an inkling we'd be in the market for a new car when I went to the New England Auto Show for the first time last year, I didn't realize how soon it would happen!

Let's Read

Coming off Martin Luther King, Jr. weekend I've been reflecting on actions I can take to move towards becoming the American citizen I want to be as President Obama challenged us in his recent farewell address. One of these areas I want to improve upon is reading, and today I revisited the talk that Lisa Bloom, the author of Think, gave at S.H.E. Summit in 2014 about the importance of women being informed in our currently dumbed-down world. Sure quick snippet articles here and there help to keep one informed, but what about deep dives into a particular topic or learning from someone's life story? I'm a self-help junkie who reads 99.9% non-fiction, and I recently reconnected with someone who laid down a list of recommended books for me to read. Some of them I had read years ago, but it's been good to revisit them

My Tasty Tropical (Toddler-Approved) Green Smoothie

Growing up in Ohio my parents always made sure my siblings and I ate a warm hearty breakfast (I think I was the only kid in my class who ate Cream of Wheat!). Breakfast is still my most important meal, but now as a parent I stand in awe of my parents who were able to get all four of their kids on board with breakfast since my two kids are definitely not breakfast fans.

Just chillin' with his smoothie

Welch's Fruit Snacks Christmas Challenge

Disclosure: I was provided with samples to facilitate this post; all opinions expressed are my own.

One of the Christmas traditions I was finally excited to be a part of now that we're in our first home is putting stockings up for each of us on our fireplace mantle. I have fond memories of this as a kid and would get excited to for the surprises my parents would put in them, mostly beauty products! When I asked my Facebook friends about their stocking memories as I sought to create ours, many responded with treats such as candy and fruit.

Our (Picture Heavy!) Patchwork Christmas Break

Happy New Year! We still have a couple more days of official Christmas break over here so I thought it'd be fun to recap what we've been up to during the past couple weeks in mostly pics.

The day before Nia's break her school had their annual Christmas concert - Nia was the sweetest angel
