My Messy Moment: A Memory from First Grade

I received information about Clorox’s Bleach It Away campaign and am sharing my messy moment for the chance to win prizes from The SITS Girls. To learn more about the messy moment program, check out www.BleachItAway.com.  Sharing your story on the Clorox fan page gets you entered for the chance to win $25,000 and daily prizes, and you can grab a coupon for Clorox® Regular Bleach.

Wasn't I a cute first grader???
One of my earliest messy memories I have while growing up in Columbus, OH was in first grade. Silly Putty was all the rage, and I decided to bring mine to school. Well mine wasn't the official Silly Putty brand - it was an off-brand. I actually think it was homemade by my aunt! It was in a plain Tupperware type container and was a slightly different texture. Anyway, that should have been a warning right there, but I was just a kid so I didn't know any better.

I decided I'd bring my off-brand Silly Putty to school and show it off to my classmates.  My mom's an avid sewer and that particular day I wore light blue cotton pants with little white flowers that she had whipped up earlier that summer on her Singer. I knew that you could copy newsprint onto Silly Putty, and I thought it'd be fun to try to replicate this with the flower print on my pants.

Boy was I wrong!

As my friends looked on I proceeded to place the Sillly Putty on a desk and sit down on it. It was going to be a butt imprint. I wriggled and squished down on it extra hard. When I got up I couldn't find it. One of my classmates started laughing. I turned to look as she pointed to my rear and saw the patch of Silly Putty. It was stuck on just like gum. Great.

My teacher came upon the little huddle that had formed and quickly assessed what had happened. I was so embarrassed. She whisked me away to the lost and found where I was put into maroon polyester gym shorts which I had to wear the rest of the day.

I felt so exposed in my shorts, but looking back I know it was probably really funny to my teacher and now as an adult very funny to me!

With my 15 month old feeling just days away from first grade to me, I know these moments are going to be coming our way soon, and I look forward to them. I'm sure we'll have plenty of messy moments to laugh about for years to come!
