When we decided to reveal the gender of Lil Lovebird's sibling I mentioned it was a real challenge to find an anatomically correct, African-American, boy doll. There really wasn't much to choose from, and when I came across JC Toys' La Newborn's African American "First Day" 15" Real Boy I knew it would be perfect for our gender reveal.
Once we introduced Nia to her new Baby Bobo (as she calls him!) it didn't take long for her to start practicing being a big sister:
While at Toy Fair 2014 I was able to visit the JC Toys booth and was excited to share our story with them as well as learn more about their brand.
Here's why I'm a JC Toys fan:
- Accurately ethnic dolls - while they make dolls of many ethnicities, JC Toys creates ethnic dolls to celebrate their unique features rather than just painting over the Caucasian molds as some other doll makers do

- High quality - the dolls are sturdy but not overly-weighted being scaled by age appropriateness; additionally, I appreciate attention to detail with the accessories such as the cloth diaper (we're HUGE cloth diaper fans!), ID bracelet, belly button gauze and birth certificate

- Anatomically correct - especially for purposes of a gender reveal this was most important to me and I was impressed to learn that in Europe it's standard to have this and even go as far as to make sure the doll is circumcised or uncircumcised according to the purchaser's preference; in the U.S. we're apparently more shy about this when it comes to our doll-buying habits!
