2018 New England Auto Show with Honda Clarity

I remember the exact moment that I was introduced to the Internet. I was in 8th grade working on a writing assignment in the computer lab with a classmate when I looked over on her screen and saw something I had never seen before. I asked her what it was and she replied, "This is the Internet!" My mind was blown as she gave me a quick run through. Apparently, a few in my class were given trials before it rolled out to the rest of us. Once we got to use the Internet and I logged into Netscape, I knew right where to go: searching for cars.

I was only 14, but knowing I'd be getting my driver's permit at 15 I was already searching for what kind of car I wanted to get. From that point forward my study halls were dedicated to car research!

Fast forward to this year's New England Auto Show: I'm still on a high and in love with my 2016 Mazda CX9 that my husband surprised me with. At that year's auto show I had researched a few cars in that class. I knew we weren't going to get a minivan, but definitely wanted a 3rd row. The Volvo CX9 and the Chevy Traverse were both in the running, but now 2 years later I'm so glad with our final selection.

As a guest of Honda, I was excited to not only have a mini-reunion with a few of my favorite, local Boston bloggers but also learn about the latest innovation in hybrid technology in the Honda Clarity

My first car in high school was this color - still my favorite!
The Honda Clarity is a Plug-In Hybrid. What's so special about that?:

It uses a high-capacity battery for longer all-electric driving and, like a traditional hybrid, uses a gas-powered engine as back up for when electricity runs low:

  • All-electric daily driver. With the class-leading* 47-mile all-electric range rating*, many daily trips can be made on battery power alone.

  • Gas for distance. For longer trips, when the electric battery runs out, the gas-powered engine takes over to provide additional driving range, yielding the 340-mile combined gas and electric range rating*.

  • Convenient charging. Plug in to electric outlets at home, work or any of the thousands of electric charging stations throughout the nation.

While pure electric vehicles replace the fuel tank with only a battery, the Clarity Plug-In Hybrid combines the best of both worlds—including the ability to use the gas engine, and its unique features:

  • Choose drive mode. Normal, ECON and Sport modes personalize how you use the engine and the battery.

  • Recharge while driving. HV Mode uses the gas engine and one of the electric motors to help recharge the battery while cruising. Additionally, regenerative braking recharges the battery every time the accelerator is lifted and each time the brakes are applied.

  • Drive on gas or electric. Use the gas-powered engine, battery-powered electricity or a combination of both.
And besides the Honda Clarity, I couldn't help but climb into the 2018 Honda Odyssey. The cargo space is incredible plus it allows the middle seats to be re-arranged so climbing to the "way back" is easier:
